Test Foods Containing Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are very important for the human body. Carbohydrates consist of elements, C, H, and O. As for the reactions of carbohydrates that are useful to know foods that contain carbohydrates. Here are the reactions of carbohydrates:
Seliwanof test for fructose, sucrose, galactose, and arabinose produces an orange color. Seliwanof test to distinguish between glucose and fructose. Fructose reacted positively to produce a red color, whereas glucose does not produce a red color.
Test reducing sugars (carbohydrates except sucrose, starch, and cellulose) with a reagent:
  1. Fehling produce brick red precipitate
  2. Tollens produce silver mirror

Hydrolysis reaction
  1. The hydrolysis of sucrose to produce glucose and fructose
  2. The hydrolysis of lactose produces galactose and glucose
  3. maltose hydrolysis produces two molecules of glucose

Test carbohydrates
  1. Reagent molisch, characterized by the formation of a purple ring at the bottom of the tube.
  2. Test polysaccharide using iodine. Test starch will produce blue, glycogen test gives red-brown color, and dextrin test gives red wine.

Carbohydrates are essential for the human body, some functionality uses carbohydrates as follows.
